Cisco Updates Wireless Specialties

4/7/2004 -- Cisco Systems recently announced that it has updated two of its Cisco Qualified Specialist titles: Cisco Wireless LAN Design Specialist and Cisco Wireless LAN Support Specialist.

Both titles cover the 802.11g international WLAN standard, WLAN toplogies for 802.11a/b/g WLAN networks, Cisco Wireless LAN Security Suite, and Cisco Structured Wireless-Aware Network (SWAN), the company said.

The new Design Specialist exam is 642-577. The previous exam, 9E0-576, will retire May 17. The new Support exam is 642-582. The exam it's replacing, 9E0-581, will also retire on the same date.

4/11/04: S S from MN says: I believe that wireless is the future and the future is now. The Wireless Specialties required you to be a CCDA for Design, CCNA for Support, and CSE for Sales. It's a nice addition for CCNA since most company have wireless connectivity.
4/11/04: WildcatDude from TN says: We are implementing VoIP and already use cisco wireless in bridging our remote facilities while fibre is being installed, it'll remain in place as failover. As soon as I get my ccna then I'll work on getting the wireless lan support cert for 2 reasons. To show the organization that not only can I install it, but I know how to support it as well, and 2, it'll get a little more money come pay raise review time.
