Oracle 10g Certification Coming in "Early June"?

3/31/2004 -- Although Oracle has yet to officially announce its upcoming Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) 10g certification track, some details are starting to emerge.

In a statement sent by an Oracle spokesperson to CertCities.com yesterday, the program said that the 10g certification track will be "available in early June." When asked what exams would be available at that time, the company declined further comment, but did say that more details will be released when the program is officially announced, also in early June.

It's possible that the first exams will not debut until July. According to a Web advertisement promoting Oracle University's recently announced 10g training curriculum, a new exam relating to the Oracle Database 10g: Administration Workshop I course will be available "in July." This is the only 10g exam specifically mentioned in the promotion, which offers a free certification voucher for those who sign up for a class before Aug. 31. This advertisement is currently running on CertCities.com as well as several other sites.

While the 10g OCP track is still a few months away, Oracle recently released a new 10g "assessment" title. Those who pass an online exam, designed for those coming into 10g through a new two-day training course, can earn the title of "Oracle Database 10g Administrator." The online test lasts one hour and costs $90 (U.S.).

Although the training is not required, Oracle told CertCities.com it created the title because, "Oracle has found that many of the individuals who are enrolling in Oracle University curriculum are oftentimes looking for metrics and recognition for work that has been accomplished."

As to whether the title given for passing the online exam might be confused with an OCP DBA 10g when used on resumes, etc., Oracle said the following in the statement provided to CertCities.com: "This designation does not indicate certification on Oracle Database 10g; however, the Oracle 10g assessment test and the resulting title of Oracle Database 10g Administrator gives professionals the recognition for having completed the 2-Day training, verifying that they have an understanding of the basics of Oracle Database 10g."

More information about the new assessment program can be found here. CertCities.com will bring you more information on the OCP 10g track as it becomes available. -Becky Nagel

4/7/04: ANONYMOUS from Mississauga, CANADA says: MICROSOFT, ORACLE all are same. Money making is their only aim.
4/17/04: anant tamboli from india says: currently i m studung in IT engineering in india and i have completed ORACLE 8i just now. but after sometime i want to appear foe OCP exam. so for that i want ur guidance.well i hope u will do that. this site is very nice for that thank u
4/18/04: Mike from USA says: This web site is great, good site for new comers and thanks for the quality work you have put in. Superb.
4/20/04: DJ MCSE 2000 from MD says: You knucleheads above bitch about everything you do not want to attain. Exam fees are not that expensive if you purchase vouchers from ATG. If you want to get away from the formal training requirements you could take the 8i track which is about 5 or 6 exams then upgrade to take the 9i exam and then pursue 10g which may require you to take some formal training. Anyway if you sign up on the Oracle website you could download to Oracle database software which varies from 500 to 650mb at no charge.
4/21/04: ms from MI says: Yes it is about making more money. As DJ said, you can purchase vouchers for the exam. I got mine from getcertify4less.com for my DBA a year ago. I will be looking into new one when more info is available. Oracle certification is good one to have. At least it worked for me so far.
4/28/04: Gurunathan from Muscat - says: IT is greate if i get a change to attend the session
5/6/04: Ron from Chicago, IL, US says: Can any one clarify the whole Oracle certification thing for me because it is very confusing. I want to get certified in Oracle financial but I read where they are on the way out. I guess E-Business is taking it's place. How would a complete novice go about geting Oracle certified in their E-business suite. I'm more interested in their accounting functionalities like financial statements, CRM etc. Also which route would you go Peoplesoft certified or Oracle? Thanks for your time.
5/9/04: Ramesh from Dubai says: i am an Oracle 9i OCP. Started with 8..then did an upgrade to 8i and then to 9i So far i have spent 125x7$ (7 exams in total) plus the time and effort plus the books and STS. i cleared all the exams in first attempt. the overall gain? well....with 7 years experience, OCP will give you a slight edge, not like CCIE regards ramesh
5/9/04: ramesh from Dubai says: Larry, only in india do people look for 4 year degrees for DBAs. to be honest Coding and DBA work is not rocket science and doesn't need 4 years experience, well may be at entry level as junior dba (ONLY in INDIA again) regards ramesh
5/13/04: Becky Nagel from Editor, CertCities.com says: Hi Ramesh -- Actually (and I'm not an expert by any means),but from what I've seen inthe US DBA and programming jobs will ask for 4-year degrees much more often than networking jobs. For some reason, degrees seem to hold more weight within those positions here.
