Cisco Relaunches Cable Specialization, Announces New Telephony Recert Options

2/3/2004 -- Cisco Systems announced two changes for its Qualified Specialist program this week: a reintroduced Cable specialization and new recertification options for its IP Telephony title.

The new Cable exam, 9E0-701, is now live. This exam plus Cisco's Certified Network Associate (CCNA) title earn candidates the Cisco Cable Specialist credential, which has been brought back after a "brief absence," the company said. Cisco did not elaborate on the absence.

In other Specialist news, the company just announced a new cross-recertification program for its three IP Telephony specializations. With it, holders of Cisco's IP Telephony Design Specialist, IP Telephony Operations Specialist or Cisco IP Telephony Troubleshooting Specialist can now recertify by taking any of the specialization exams for these three titles (9E0-412, 9E0-422 and 9E0-441). According to Cisco, passing any one of these exams renews your Telephony specialization (expires every two years) as well as your CCNA and/or Cisco Certified Design Associate (CCDA) (expires every three years).

More information about both of these announcements can be found here. More on Cisco's Qualified Specialist certification program can be found here. -Becky Nagel

2/4/04: John Cena MCSA CCNA A Plus Network Plus from Roxbury, Mass says: Not to many schools have the Cable or Telephony specialist class. I'll do an extensive search. Maybe Cisco did not get the correct questions last time and pulled the exam off the centers.
2/4/04: Anonymous says: Cisco needs to lay off the drugs for a while and get their cert program straightened out and stabilized. Their current program has the feel of tweakers on the verge of overdosing.
2/4/04: Anonymous says: OK, what cert program would you not have any complains about? My guess is none, you will just compain about every single thing posted on this site, because you can't even afford one while many other people have done many and made a success out of those. So, if you can't afford it, doesn't mean it's bad for other people, it's just too bad for you, go and have a self pity and stop giving people bad ideas.
2/4/04: Anonymous says: I can afford them - I have a stable job and money in the bank because I am not stupid enough to buy into cert marketing. Fact is, in those in my Fortune 10 company who are IT geeks, not one of them have a single cert. So, I can freely talk crap about these marketing programs, aka "certs" because I know they are worthless against those who truly know their sheeit.
2/4/04: Anonymous says: I took the certs because I got extra financial resource in my bank to spend, that's why. And it doesn't mean that just because one has a bunch of certs, one doesn't truly know his/her sheeit, having certs isn't always a subtitute for having real experience and skills, well maybe that's the case with you or those geeks. It doesn't mean that certs are bad just because you think so, maybe they don't work for you, or your people over there, but it's not enough reason to judge them being bad for everyone. Please stop giving false ideas.
