CompTIA Launches Updated IT Project+

11/19/2003 -- Yesterday the Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) officially announced the launch of its new IT Project+ exam. The exam is now live and available at Prometric and Pearson Vue testing centers.

This is the first revision of the title since CompTIA acquired it from the Gartner Group two years ago. According to CompTIA, it is a major revision, with as much as 50 percent of the exam's content focus changed. The 2003 objectives for IT Project+ can be found here.

The new exam, PK0-002, consists of 80 questions and has a 90-minute time limit. Candidates can choose between the old and new exam until the end of 2003, when the older version will be retired.

Like other CompTIA certifications, IT Project+ is good for life; it does not retire.

More information on IT Project+ can be found here. -Becky Nagel

11/20/03: Anonymous says: yeah, I hope this one is really ambiguous and poorly written like the other one. I knew PM's that failed this thing with production experience. I love CompTIA's stuff, but this exam missed it mark in Version 1 of its offering.
11/20/03: Scott from Toronto says: Let's hope that CompTIA takes this exam seriously this time. I wrote the first version a week after acing the PMP exam; I scored 93% on Project but -- get this -- the questions were so ambiguous and poorly worded that I wasn't sure at the time if I was even going to pass. I even had two questions appear twice. Charging over two hundred dollars for it was a crime. My advice: wait until some qualified reviews appear before forking out the dough for this one...
11/23/03: Anonymous says: TestKing was closed? What happened? Any news on it at all?
11/24/03: IT Project+ was relatively easy says: I found it an easy test as long as you studied the right material. I started out studying the Sybex book but the guy who wrote it was too stuck on himself to write a good learning tool. Someone pointed me to Kathy Schwalbe's book and wow what a difference. Small, compact, to the point, geared directly towards the test. Using just her book I passed the test with relative ease. If you don't believe me, try it for yourself. You still have almost a month to take the old exam, and this book can prep you in a week to two weeks max! Good luck.
11/26/03: Becky Nagel from Editor, CertCities.com says: Hey 11-23 Anonymous: We're looking into that; nothing definite so far, but we will report should something solid surface.

12/6/05: Anonymous says: TestKing SUCKS! Their products malfunction and are not accurate. DO NOT USE THEM!
