Check Point Launches New Entry-Level Cert

10/13/2003 -- Earlier this month Check Point announced a new certification: Check Point Certified Security Principles Associate (CCSPA).

The exam for this title (#156-110) tests a candidates' "proficiency in security fundamentals, concepts, and best practices" and "places a strong emphasis on associating security solutions with business needs," the company said. The new exam costs $150 (U.S.) and is available through Pearson Vue testing centers worldwide.

Detailed objectives for CCPSA are available here. The content appears to be more vendor-neutral than the company's other foundational title, the Check Point Certified Security Administrator (CCSA), which focuses on foundation-level skills using the company's VPN-1/FireWall-1 products. And unlike the CCSA, the CCSPA is not required to earn any of Check Point's higher-level certifications.

The exam corresponds to the company's optional "Principles of Network Security" training course.

More information about the CCPSA can be found here. -Becky Nagel

10/14/03: Anonymous says: Where's the training material for the this Cert
10/14/03: Benicio Afflack from Sunnyvale, California says: It doesn't sound like a technical security cert. It may cover objectives in the Security Plus or CISSP exams. Checkpoint does not make it easy on their website to download an evaluation product of their security VPN software to study for their exams. Anyone has it? or used it.
10/15/03: Pumkinhead from South Jersey says: Why not just go for the CCSA, which is what I'm thinking, even though I don't have the 6 months exp.
10/15/03: Nick from Boston, MA says: CCSA is simple enough as it is. I got mine from reading a book over a couple days with entry level FP3 knowledge. This new exam sounds like Security Plus. Just go for CCSA
10/21/03: Nick from Silicon Valley says: It seems ridiculous everybody and their mothers seem to be offering certifications these days...even if they duplicate existing (similar) certifications...
10/22/03: Anonymous says: Doesnt this sound like a Security plus certification? Same thing
10/25/03: Anonymous says: Dude, as all of us senior IT people in my large company are saying, there is no future in IT, so best start looking elsewhere while you still can.
11/5/03: Nick from Silicon Valley says: Most IT jobs are outsoure-able, so I think the trend will continue with our IT jobs going over to India, China, and who knows where else... Everybody working in IT now need to have an exit or fallback strategy... Mo money? For whom?
