Sun To Join Cisco Networking Academy
1/25/2001 -- Cisco announced last week that Sun will be the first outside vendor selected to join its Cisco Networking Academy.
According to a printed release, Sun will provide UNIX operating system content for the Academy's curriculum beginning in September 2001.
The new "Fundamentals of Unix" module will focus on Unix fundamentals and feature >>hands-on exercises using Sun's Unix operating environment Solaris.
Kevin Warner, senior director of worldwide education at Cisco, said in a printed statement,"This alliance demonstrates the commitment of both Cisco and Sun to partner with Education to support learning in the public sector."
"Employers are hungry for IT-skilled workers and Cisco is committed to building upon the Networking Academy program to arm students with the critical IT skills necessary to remain competitive in the work place," he continued.
The Cisco Networking Academy features a combination of Web-based, instructor-led learning and hands-on exercises to teach students how to design, build and maintain computer networks. There are more than 5,900 Cisco Networking Academies throughout the world.
