Nortel To Revamp Cert Program

9/24/2003 -- Nortel Networks recently announced that on Oct. 31 it will make several changes to its certification program, including focusing titles around job roles and eliminating some outdated credentials.

As part of the change, all "post-sales Professional Certifications" will be grouped under the Nortel Networks Certified Support Specialist (NNCSS) designation, changing seven Nortel Networks Certified Field Specialist (NNCFS) and Nortel Networks Certified Design Specialist (NNCDS) titles into NNCSS titles.

Tracks being eliminated entirely include NNCFS BCM 2.5 and NNCFS First Line Maintenance. Several others are being updated for new product releases, including NNCCS Passport and NNCDS Ethernet Switching.

Details on all the changes can be found here. -Becky Nagel

9/25/03: Anonymous says: Nortel is still around? Seesh! I haven't heard much of them since they laid off about 55,000 people! It sure will be interesting to see if they hang around for another year because the financial analysts are currently taking bets on the financial "cave in" of Nortel due to it's massive debt load.
9/25/03: Nortel eh says: I read about them when studying for NetworkPlus...must be just as useless!!!
9/25/03: nortel no says: Nortel's antiquated user interface is what makes their products so difficult requiring a certification to just talk about them. Their products are quite inexpensive making them popular so don't count Nortel out completely. They are struggling just like all telecom stocks, Lucent, Avaya, Siemens, et. al. They all depend upon a growing economy which we currently don't have. All companies made their infrastructure purchases in old telecom stuff prior to Y2K and these makers are all trying to sell into the network hardware space that currently Cisco commands.
9/26/03: To Nortel eh says: You read about "Nortel" eh. Did you mean Novell...hehe
4/12/05: Nortel Tech from UK says: I install Nortel equipment for a living, there's nothing wrong with it, or their cert program. Just completed a nortel cert a couple of weeks ago. Been installing nortel stuff for over 3 years now.
