Cisco Announces CCNP/CCDP Composite Exam

7/9/2003 -- As part of an upcoming revamp of the Cisco Certified Network Professional title, Cisco has announced a new exam: Composite (COMP 642-891).

The exam will debut August 7. It will replace the current CCNP and CCDP Recertification and CCNP Foundation exams, as well as serve as an option for candidates who want to "consolidate" the BSCI and BCMSN exams, the company said.

The existing Foundation 640-841exam, CCNP Recertification 640-589 exam, and CCDP Recertification 640-529 exam will retire on September 7, 2003, matching the recently announced extended deadline for the other retiring CCNP exams. Corresponding courses will retire August 7.

More information on the new exam and how it fits in to the CCNP certification requirements can be found here. More information on how it applies to the CCDP can be found here. -Becky Nagel

7/15/03: Anonymous says: POST REMOVED: Obvious reasons. -- Becky Nagel, Editor, CertCities.com.
7/14/03: Ashley from London says: To the dude who made the "Quickie Mart" comment - very ignorant and pathetic of you to even bother speaking. You've merely shown us all how retarded you are. I hope you don't have a Cisco cert because if you do, you sure as hell must be an atrocious network engineer. Do us all a favour and remove yourself from the gene pool, if you can even figure out how to do that.
7/14/03: Anonymous says: I don't see what you guys are complaining about. Cisco made the CCNP//CCDP recertification exam recertify either cert. AND, you can take the one test instead of 2 seperate exams.
7/17/03: Anonymous says: I think Cisco has done a great job with their certification programme. However, as my company is not willing to pay for the training courses, I have to fund my own training. Using the official self study books, I have found that they do not provide the self study materials early enough, come 7th August and you'll probably find that there is no self study books to prepare you for the new exams...
7/21/03: Anonymous says: Just a big carrot on a stick!
7/24/03: CCNP Guy says: If Cisco thinks it is good changing the exam every alternate day, thats a wrong assupmtion. Minimum time frame shld be there for a Certification, for example CCNP..it has almost changed 4 times in less than a year ( i mean the papers like BSCI).. there should be some consistentcy... God Bless we cisco people....
7/25/03: mohanraj from india says: please send me the cisco exam notes sample
8/5/03: Joel from Des Moines says: I agree with you Todd! If they can't figure it out, no way they are touching a router on our net. Also, exams are good for a variety of reasons. First, you do have to study to pass them. Second, they mean you are trainable so it's good for an employer as a measuring stick. Third, you find out what areas you are weak in so you can hit the books harder. Fourth, it can lead to higher income! True, you can't become a good Engineer unless you've had a lot of hands on experience, but the best Engineers I know have also achieved the highest level of certification. For what you get, the price is very low.
8/5/03: Camron from Alabama says: I think Cisco is doing a great job. Just do to the fact that they are not playing around with theirt CP's. They always want people like us to be on the ball. Yea it's expensive.. but your pay does make up for it... Right?
