Red Hat Certs Updated for 9.0

4/16/2003 -- Red Hat's hands-on lab exams are currently being updated to Red Hat 9.0, the newest version of the company's flagship product, a company spokesperson told CertCities.com last week.

The lower-level Red Hat Certified Technician (RHCT), the company's new mid-level lab exam, has already been updated to 9.0. The high-level Red Hat Certified Engineer will be on 9.0 by April 21, the spokesperson said

Red Hat's policy to is upgrade its certification exams and training classes within three weeks of a new release.

If you'll be taking the RHCE before April 21, check with your lab location to see what version of Red Hat the exam will be given on.

4/16/03: Nick Boardman from Virginia Beach, VA says: How is anyone supposedly proficient enough with this brand new OS to go get certified on it? It's not like it's Red Hat 8.1 and only a dot upgrade; its Red Hat 9.0 and that should mean sweeping changes. For the record, I am not anti-Linux or Red Hat, just curious.
4/16/03: Anonymous says: I'll wait for Red Hat 10 which will surely be out next week.
4/17/03: Anonymous says: whoa cool! now the question is the rhct or linux-plus?
4/20/03: n0dez from Linux Republic says: Hi, I'm an RHCT and I'm gonna take the RHCE exam soon. I've used Red Hat 8.0, 8.1b3 and 9 and 8.0 and 9 aren't very different. They have added a Samba config tool, redefine the Red Hat Gnome menu, ... but the main commands are the same. n0dez -- www.n0dez.com

4/29/03: Bryan J. Smith from Orlando, FL says: Ack! That'll teach me to register! I'm taking the RHCE exam on May 2nd in Atlanta. Gotta call Red Hat Training and find out what exam I'm taking!
5/5/03: Anonymous says: I took the RH9 exam- it is fair. If you understand RH8, you'll understand RH9. We're not talking compatibility differences like Microsoft releases :)
5/5/03: Bryan J. Smith from Orlando, FL says: Yeah, I took the Exam-Only (RH302) in Atlanta last Friday (were you there?), which was the first week of the RHCE 9 exam. The pain isn't Red Hat 9 -- it's the new "minimum required sub-section" scores. Although I finished the Troubleshooting very early, and everyone aces the Multiple Choice (even 3 out of 4 that fail get a 85% on that part), Section 3, Installation, is now broken up into 3 sub-parts that require you to get a 70% on two sections (one for RHCT-only, and that one plus another for RHCE). I'm sure that's going to reduce the passing rate a bit. I fear that I, someone who's been supporting Red Hat on corporate networks since 1995 (as my primary responsibility for the last 5 years of my career), only got enough for the RHCT. Ack!
