Updated LPI Exams Go Live

4/2/2003 -- On Monday the Linux Professional Institute (LPI) launched new versions of its vendor-neutral LPIC Level 1 certification exams: 101 and 102.

The new exams, currently available only in English, are now being offered at Prometric and Pearson Vue testing centers worldwide. Japanese and German versions will debut shortly, LPI said.

Along with updated objectives, the revamped exams offer a new feature: candidates can choose to be tested on RPM or Debian package. "We have to provide IT professionals with a solid challenge to ensure their knowledge base mirrors todays reality, commented LPI President Evan Leibovitch. Because most professionals arent expected to know both management systems, our new exam closely copies their training programs and work experiences.

Candidates pick the package they wish to be tested on when beginning an exam, LPI said.

The exams debuted in beta format in November, when the previous versions were retired. The new exams will not affect those already LPIC Level 1 certified because LPI certification is valid for life. Either set can be used to move on to the organization's Level 2 certification, LPI said.

According to LPI, the organization has delivered more than 24,000 exams to date, and awarded more than 5,500 certifications worldwide.

4/2/03: Anonymous says: mo' money, you are dumb. These exams have a lot of value. Plus LPI is a vendor neutral, none profit org like COMPTIA. I know COMPTIA's exams are high but the got to pay the bills. So does LPI so stop your bitchin.
4/3/03: Anonymous says: you are dumb. no one gets hired because they have an LPI cert and that is that. go spark a J and get a clue.
4/3/03: Anonymous says: I will have to say that LPI seems to be more noticed here in Germany than RedHat. Because of the cost factor of schooling.
4/5/03: DaRkNeSs says: LPI is good because it is vendor neutral. That is more to Linux than just Redhat. Redhat is ok but there are better linux distro's out there. And there is no hell.
4/8/03: Anonymous says: yeah mo'money is a moron only dreaming of having certs that he/she can't get, work harder so mo'money you poor thing
4/8/03: USA Forever from Washington DC says: DELETED POSTS: Sorry guys, getting to be too much. Please keep on-topic.
4/9/03: Cosmic Cowboy from Chicago says: As a loyal American, Canadian-based LPI can quite frankly go straight to hell. Canada is a seething cauldron of Anti-Americanism and I will exclusively support U.S. based distribution Red Hat. Also, France-based Mandrake and Germany-based SuSE can also cheerfully join LPI in their well-deserved one-way trip to hell.
4/11/03: chill from earth says: brr...
4/13/03: Thread from Chicago says: Dont forget Linux is open sorce and its about development of tecnology. It has nothing to do with darn REDHAT , MANDRAKE SUSE or whatever. So think atleast once about it before posting anything here
4/17/03: Cosmic Cowboy from Chicago says: Hey Jackass (Thread from Chicago), why don't you think "at least once" before posting anything here? Try reading my post again, provided you're not completely illiterate, and you'll see that my point was to discourage anyone from supporting Canadian-based LPI itself. Use anything you want but if you're a loyal American, you won't be sending your hard-earned money to a country that absolutely loathes Americans and makes no secret about it. If you have to get certified, spend your dough on getting the RHCE. God save me from jackasses who can't comprehend what they read...
