LPI Announces "Upgrade" Program for SAIR Cert Holders
2/7/2002 -- The Linux Professional Institute made several announcements regarding its certification program at Linux World New York last week.
Most significantly, the organization announced an "upgrade" program for holder's of the Sair LCA Linux certification title. "Effective immediately, all current holders of Sair LCA certifications will be granted LPI Level 1 certification (LPIC1) upon successful completion of the LPI Level 2 certification (LPIC2) exams," the company said. Normally, candidates must complete the Level 1 exams before being eligible for LPIC2 certification.
It also announced that it will allow Sair LCAs who want to become LPIC1 certified to obtain the title by taking either the 101 or 102 exam. The title normally requires both.
LPI is a nonprofit title which competes with the commercial Sair-GNU Linux certification program, owned by Thomson.
In other LPI news, the organization announced that it had delivered more than 1,000 exams in December, and that it will offer half-price exams at the Hanover, Germany-based Cebit show in March.
