Nortel Launches Optical Internet Certification

11/8/2000 -- Nortel Networks announced this week that it will introduce a new certification program for Optical Internet in early 2001. According to Nortel, this is the first certification designed for optical networking professionals.

The certification will eventually offer a total of six designations: account specialist, support specialist, design specialist, field specialist, design expert and support expert. Sub-specializations include metro, installation, long-haul and maintenance.

The specialist designations each require one exam, available through Prometric. Exam prices will range from $100 to $300. Optional training classes, some of which are currently available, will range from $1,000 to $5,000. The average length of these classes is three days.

For more details on this certification, access the FAQ on Nortel Network's Web site at http://www.nortelnetworks.com/servsup/certification/faqs.html. -B.N.

11/9/00: Anonymous says: It is too expersive to take the exam. The class is $1000-5000, not all company willing to send people for a class like this. The cost is too much.
11/10/00: Becky says: Do you think it's just Nortel, or in your opinion does IT training just cost too much? What do you think is a reasonable price for three-day training course? Does it depend on the class, and what you’re getting out of it? -- Becky Nagel, Web Editor, CertCities.com ([email protected])
11/14/00: Judy says: Entry level training is way too expensive. As you make more money you can afford to pay 1000 + for a class, but some good people get blocked at the first stage by the cost.
