Cisco Sets Retirement Date for WAN Specialization Exams

11/14/2001 -- Cisco announced this week on its Web site that it will retire its CCNA, CCNP and CCDP WAN specialization exams on Dec. 31.

No reason was given on the Web site; however, the company announced previously that it would be retiring many of its title-specific specializations when it debuted its new Qualified Specialist designation earlier this year.

At the time of that announcement, the company said that although specialization exams would be retired, the titles themselves would remain valid for at least two years.

The exams will remain available at VUE and Prometric testing centers until the above date.

To view the official announcement, see the "What's New" section of Cisco's Web site. -B.N.

12/7/01: Steve says: R, The WAN-CCNA is being retired, not the Routing and Switching (regular) CCNA. Go for it!
1/4/02: Danilo says: Those Certifications that Cisco are going to retire are CCNA/CCNP/CCDP WAN Switching and WAN Partnet Specialization will also retire. CCNA/CCNP/CCDP Routing and Switching will still be active and there is no news of retirement plan by Cisco. Only specialization certification are in danger of retirement, but not Associate(CCNA R&S), Professional (CCNP R&S), and Expert (CCIE R&S). 3/13/02: logan says: i am planning to take my ccnp exams, the routing, then the switching, is this a good idea or should i wait until the Newer CCNP exams are out, since the beta are out already? thank you. don't want to take half of the ccnp, then the other half will not be valid....
