Oracle Launches Internet-Based Oracle Learning Network

11/7/2000 -- Yesterday Oracle announced the Oracle Learning Network (OLN), a subscription-based education portal aimed at Oracle DBAs, application implementors and developers.

For $1,195 per year, users can sign up for a "professional"-level subscription, which offers unlimited access to instructor-led "eClasses," self-paced study materials, streaming audio seminars with slides and Oracle certification preparation materials.

According to Oracle, its eClasses, which are not presented live but pre-recorded by Oracle University instructors, consist of:

  • Short tutorials with slides in streaming audio/video.
  • Hands-on demonstrations in streaming audio format.
  • Quick quizzes to test progress.
  • Directions for completing hands on exercises.

The professional-level subscription is aimed at IT professionals with advanced Oracle skills; other subscription levels are expected to be announced at a later date. Free "trial" subscriptions, which offer limited access to OLN, are available.

11/13/00: Gerry says: I think they need to re-evaluate their pricing scheme. For those that may only want to take certain courses, it would be far better to offer the opportunity to take individual courses. Personally I would not pay that amount of money for online courses.
11/16/00: Joe says: A bit costly for online courses. Make the price very reasonable to intice more individuals to be knowledgeable of the product ;therefore, more likely to choose Oracle.
11/28/00: umar says: i highly appreciate, its great, the price is highly affordable
4/3/01: Anonymous says: I think that for people that's willing to learn the technology but don't have the resources it's a challenge to pay that price. It's true that both parties benefit from it but I think that the software company benefits the most.
