Ascendent Announces Security Certs

9/26/2001 -- Ascendent Learning announced Sept. 19 that it is launching a new vendor-neutral certification program for network security professionals.

The program will consist of two titles: Security Certified Network Professional (SCNP) and Security Certified Network Architect (SCNA).

According to Ascendent, the title's exams test candidate's knowledge of "specific security technologies like firewalls, IDS, PKI, biometrics and forensics," among other skills.

To become SCNP certified, candidates must pass one 60-question exam. The company also requires candidates to possess a CompTIA Network+ certification or have "equivalent knowledge." The program's Web site does not state how candidates should go about proving their "equivalent knowledge."

For the SCNA title, candidates must pass two exams: one 60-question, one 30-question.

The exams are scheduled to be released later this year. Training for the exams is available.
