Cisco Addresses Data Replication over IP with New WAAS Module

10/20/2008 -- Cisco has recently announced a new version of the company's Wide-Area Application Services (WAAS) software, designed to enhance the performance of storage applications.

The new version of WAAS includes a Replication Accelerator mode that helps IT administrators maximize remote data replication over IP networks.

The new WAAS component is intended to reduce backup and replication times, with the goal of improving overall disaster recovery and business continuity.

According to Cisco, the WAAS Replication Accelerator mode has been validated for use with EMC SRDF and NetApp SnapMirror storage applications. The solution is currently supported on the Cisco Wide-Area Application Engine WAE-7341 and WAE 7371 appliances. --Chris Reidel
