4/20/2001 -- ProsoftTraining.com announced recently through its Web site that it has changed the way it will score its Certified Internet Webmaster (CIW) Foundation exam (1D0-410).

Previously, candidates had to achieve a miminum score in each of the exam's three sections, and acheive an overall score of 75 percent or better. The minimum score requirements for the sections have now been completely dropped, and Prosoft has raised the overall pass rate to 80 percent.

Prosoft did not give a reason for the change on its Web site, and our request for comment on this story was not returned by press time. However, Warren Wryostek, a CIW trainer, said that the change may have been driven by test takers who felt the previous scoring system was unfair. "Before, you'd have students who'd score 85 or 90 percent overall, but fail because they missed one too many questions in the HTML section," he explained. "This is fantastic news [for candidates]."

The Foundation exam is the base exam for Prosoft's CIW certification program. By passing this exam, candidates can become CIW Associates and/or go on to tackle the program's professional- and master-level certification tracks.
