Novell Announces CLE 9, Will Make CLP Prerequisite

3/23/2005 -- Novell recently announced on its Web site that an updated version of its Certified Linux Engineer (CLE) certification for SuSE Linux 9 will go live in September.

Aside from featuring updated material, the new CLE 9 will also require that candidates hold the company's lower-level Certified Linux Professional (CLP) certification (already covering SuSE 9). Currently, the titles are independent of each other.

The new exam will be a hands-on simulated practicum, like all current Novell Linux exams. As such, it will only be available through select Novell testing centers. Novell Linux practicums cost $125 (U.S.) each.

Optional training courses for CLE 9 will debut in June. The company did not say if or when it plans to retire the current version of the CLE.
