CompTIA Considering Convergence Cert

1/26/2005 -- Today, the Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) announced that it is looking into creating a convergence certification as part of a larger initiative to promote the growth of convergence technologies in 2004.

"Voice-over-IP telephony, unified communications, presence solutions and other applications ... are clearly poised for broad deployment in both business and consumer markets," Brian McCarthy, chief operating officer of CompTIA, said in a printed statement. "CompTIA is committed to working with our members to provide them with the business tools and skills necessary for them to thrive in the is brave new world of communications."

The organization said it is currently working with more than 20 companies in the market to evaluate the need for a vendor-neutral convergence certification.

CompTIA currently offers a number of vendor-neutral titles, including A+, Network+, Linux+ and Security+. It announced in November that it is considering adding a Radio Frequency IDentification (RFID) certification to its roster.
