CompTIA Drops "IT" from Project+ Name

8/11/2004 -- The Computer Technology Industry Association announced this week that it has renamed IT Project+, the organization's project management certification, to simply Project+ in order to better reflect the title's application beyond IT professionals, the company said.

According to CompTIA, the new name is a result of feedback gathered from project management professionals following a major upgrade of the certification last year. "We believe the upgraded content provides value to a much wider audience of organizations and individuals than those focused solely on IT projects, and the name should reflect that," Lisa-Ann Barnes, president, IreeTec, Inc. and chair of the CompTIA Project+ advisory committee, said in a printed statement. "Individuals managing any type of project for their company -- whether or not it has an IT component to it -- can benefit enormously from using the certification as a means of validating project management competency."

Project+ requires passing one standard-format, 80-question exam focused on a variety of project management skills, such as business process improvement, marketing, product development and software development/engineering.
