BEA Revamps Cert Program, Adds Back Exams

3/10/2004 -- BEA's certification program now has exams, again.

In late 2002, the company dropped most exams from its certification program, turning it into a "certificate" program that awarded credentials based on candidate's attendance in instructor-led training classes. The only exception was BEA's WebLogic 7.0 Certified Developer title, which allowed candidates to choose between an exam or attending classes.

However, with the release of the company's 8.1 track last month, earning the company's credentials once again depends on passing a proctored exam. All classroom training is now optional.

BEA does not state on its Web site why it decided to move back to exams. CertCities.com made several requests through a BEA press relations representative for comment on the change, but the company did not provide any.

The new 8.1 track feature three titles: BEA 8.1 Certified Developer, BEA 8.1 Certified Administrator and BEA 8.1 Certified Architect. Within the Developer title are several specializations that candidates can choose from. Each of the titles requires passing one exam.

Three of the new exams are now live at Prometric testing centers:

  • BEA 8.1 Certified Developer: Build Solutions (0B0-101)
  • BEA 8.1 Certified Developer: Integration Solutions (0B0-103)
  • BEA 8.1 Certified Administrator: Build Solutions (0B0-104)

According to a FAQ on the Web site, the Architect and Certified Developer: Portal Solutions exams are scheduled to be released this month.

BEA states that although the "course-based" program was disbanded on Feb. 16, those currently pursuing a title through that program have until April 1, 2004 to complete their requirements. The BEA Web Logic 7.0 and 6.0 exams will remain available for those who want to certify on earlier versions of BEA's product.
