Sun Betas New Mobile Cert, Upgrading Component Exam

1/28/2004 -- Sun Microsystems will soon be coming out with a new Java certification: Sun Certified Mobile Application Developer J2ME, Version 1.0.

Full details about the new credential have yet to be released; however, the company recently announced a beta for the title's exam on its Web site.

The beta launches Feb. 5. Candidates must be previously certified Sun Certified Programmer for the Java 2 Platform to participate in the free beta (and the certification, when launched). To request a voucher, those interested must e-mail their full name, e-mail address and Prometric Student ID number to [email protected] with the subject line "SCMAD Voucher." Those who pass will earn the new certification.

The company also appears to be updating its Sun Certified Web Component Developer title. A beta is currently underway for a new version of this title's exam for J2EE 1.4. To participate, candidates must send the same e-mail as described above but with a subject line referring to the Web Component title. This beta will remain open through Feb. 8.

More information on the Mobile Application Developer beta can be found here. More information on the Web Component beta can be found here. CertCities.com will bring you more on both titles as information becomes available. -Becky Nagel
