12/12/2000 -- The Computer Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) recently posted a call on its Web site for subject matter experts (SMEs) to help develop its upcoming certification, Linux+. These SMEs will develop the questions for this entry-level Linux certification, which is scheduled to launched in Q3 2001.

According to the site (click here), SME candidates should currently hold a position that either relates to the implementation and maintenance of Linux infrastructure or development of Linux applications.

Knowledge/experience expected of SMEs for this project include:

• Familiarity with the work environment and typical job tasks of the entry-level Linux professional.
• Familiarity with the level of skills of the typical entry-level Linux professional who has been on the job six months.
• Familiarity with typical problems encountered by entry-level Linux professionals.
• Work with entry-level Linux professionals on a regular basis.
• Provide support to entry-level Linux professionals.
• Coach or mentor entry-level Linux professionals.

Related certifications are desired. See the Web site link above for further requirements.

SMEs who participate in the development workshops, which will be held in North America as well as internationally, will receive $250, a voucher toward the Linux+ exam and a company name listing as a Linux+ sponsor. Applicants can apply on the CompTIA Web site (http://www.comptia.org). -B.N.
