Oracle Java Certs To Retire in 2003

7/24/2002 -- On July 1, Oracle officially announced that it will retire its Java certifications on Jan. 31, 2003.

According to the company's Web site, candidates who pass the required exams before the above deadline will remain certified with OCP benefits, even after the certs are officially withdrawn.

The announcement was not unexpected; Oracle University Vice President Chris Pirie told CertCities.com in June that the company would be replacing its Java titles with ones that "are more Web-services focused." An official announcement regarding the new certs is expected within the next few months.
