Synching Outlook 2007 Contacts with SharePoint
Is it possible to share the contact lists in Outlook 2007 and SharePoint so they are synchronized?

2/16/2010 -- My company uses card-scanning software to capture our customers' information and add them to Microsoft Outlook 2007. Our users also have a Contacts list in SharePoint which is their primary Contacts list. Is it possible to share the two lists so they are synchronized? We're using Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 on Windows Server 2003.
Answer:
Yes, you can easily view the contacts added to Microsoft Outlook in Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS) 2007 and vice versa. Both MOSS and Outlook are Office products and the integration between them allows sharing of certain data, such as contacts.
Let's say you've created a Contacts list in SharePoint (Lists, Create, Contacts). Here's how your users can share the SharePoint contacts with Outlook 2007.
- Go to the Contacts list in SharePoint and from the Actions menu select "Connect to Outlook."
- You'll see a prompt asking "Connect this SharePoint Contacts List to Outlook?" Answer yes.
- You'll be connected to Outlook and the contacts will be synchronized. If you have any SharePoint contacts, they'll show up in your contacts in Outlook. If you have Outlook contacts, they'll show up in SharePoint.
- If you don't see the contacts, just refresh the screen. It may take a few minutes, depending on the number of contacts you have, so be patient. If you don't select Connect to Outlook, you won't see the contact synchronization between SharePoint and Outlook.
