Start Where You Stopped in a Word-Saved Doc
How can I quickly get to the point where my cursor was when I last saved the document?

5/23/2007 -- I usually work on large Word documents. When I open an existing document, I'm always taken to the beginning of the document. How can I quickly get to the point where my cursor was when I last saved the document?
You can use the SHIFT+F5 combination to quickly get to the point where your cursor was when you last saved the document.
Keep in mind that if you haven't made any changes to a saved Word document and you save the document again by clicking on the save icon (or using File, Save), Word doesn't really update the file because there were no changes made that need to be saved. You can verify this by looking at the time and date stamp on the document.
For example, let's say you save a 100-page document and your cursor was at the beginning of page 25. If you close the document and then open it again, your cursor will be at the beginning of page 1. Use the SHIFT+F5 combination and your cursor will move to the beginning of page 25 where you last saved the document.
Now, if you move your cursor to the middle of page 17 and then save the document again, there are no changes to be saved so the file isn't really "saved," per se. If you close the document and reopen it, pressing SHIFT+F5 will still take you back to the beginning of page 25 and not to the middle of page 17.
