Stop Windows Messenger From Starting Up
How do I prevent Windows Messenger from starting up each time I log on to Windows XP?
by Zubair Alexander
6/20/2007 -- This is a question that's asked by a lot of people. If you do not use Windows Messenger and would like to get rid of it, follow the procedure described below:
- Start the registry editor, regedit.exe.
- Go to HKEY_USERS and locate your SID, which is a long number that starts with S and contains more than 40 digits.
- Go to SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run.
- Locate MSMSGS key in the right pane and delete it.
- Restart your computer.
