4/17/2002 -- As originally reported by GoCertify.com earlier this week, Oracle has withdrawn from the jCert intiative, a consortium of Java vendors who allowed each other's exams to count toward teirs of multi-vendor Java certification.

No mention of why Oracle withdrew has been made on the Jcert.org or Oracle Web site. However, notices on JCert.org and the Web sites of other consortium members state that any candidates seeking credit for their Oracle certifications must apply by June 30.

CertCities.com contacted both Oracle and JCert regarding the withdrawal, but our requests for comment were not returned as of press time.

JCert was founded in 2000 to form a common set of standards for Enterprise Java certification, and to allow candidates to apply for cross-credit for their certifications between the various member companies. Remaining members of the coalition include Hewlett-Packard, IBM and Sun Microsystems.
