U.S. Rollout of MOUS XP Exams To Be Complete Jan. 14

12/19/2001 -- Certiport, the organization that manages the Microsoft Office User Specialist (MOUS) certification program for Microsoft, told CertCities.com yesterday that the full slate of its English-version Office XP exams will be available at all its testing centers worldwide by Jan. 14, with availability in other languages by the end of the month.

Currently, only the Excel Core, Excel Expert, Word Core and Word Expert 2002 exams have been released. And some candidates have reported problems booking these exams because not all U.S.-based testing centers are delivering them.

Bill Wall, vice president of sales, marketing and services for Certiport (formerly Nivo), told CertCities.com that the current availability rate is around 50 percent in the US He said the delay in availability is usually due to test centers (which are often also training centers) waiting until their Office XP training is completely underway before manually installing the exams. However, he told us, that will change on Jan. 14 with a new update of the company's underlying testing software, IQ Software 4.0.

The "mandatory" update will automatically make all English MOUS exams available at all 8,000 testing centers worldwide, he explained. With the new version, not only will the Word and Excel exams be automatically loaded, but also the English versions of the 2002 PowerPoint, Access and Outlook Core exams, which will be officially released on Dec. 28, he told us.

Other enhancements include unique user ID recognition and enhanced remote troubleshooting. The software will be backward-compatible with all previously released MOUS exams.

As for other languages, Wall said that the company plans to have the roster of XP exams released in Spanish, Korean, Finnish, Swedish, German, Italian, Norwegian and Japanese by the end of January, with other languages coming soon after.

Until the upgrade, Wall recommends that any U.S.-based candidates unable to find released MOUS XP exams at their local testing center should call Certiport's customer service line at (888) 222-7890.

12/20/01 - Don  a FP MCP says: Notibly absent is a FrontPage MOUS certification. Come on, get with the program! FrontPage is a very important part of Microsoft Office, and it deserves the same treatment as Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Outlook.
12/21/01 - Charlie  J says: It's about time, I've been waiting for the Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook test's for months. Good Job Microsoft!
12/21/01 - R  . says: I called the 888 number and was given a list of testing centers in my area who offer XP exams. I called the testing centers and they stated they are not giving the XP exams. Does Certipoint rally have an acurate list of who is giving XP exams or is there list just compiled who is offering any version of the MOUS exams?
12/21/01 - Anonymous says: The "mandatory" update is good news. Some testing centers in my area are still on Office 95. I hope this includes the Project exams also? I get my info from the MOUS website, and I end up educating the staff at every testing center I go to. They are all a few steps behind. Communication needs to be improved. Also frustrating is trying to use the pre-paid vouchers from purchased from Nivo without being charged additional fees, and finding somewhere to test nights & weekends. Hopefully things will improve after Jan 14th. I hope I don't have to explain who Certiport is. =-)
12/22/01 - Anonymous says: Totally agree, I also educate tesing centers on the MOUS program and how to print test results. There should be an exam given to the testing centers on how to handle the exams Including scheduling. Too many testing centers only have a window of 2 hours a day, if that, of giving the exams. I hope things will improve too.
12/28/01 - Anonymous says: From what is stated above it says all testing centers will have office xp exams. But I called some local centers and they state they are not going to xp anytime in 2002. So what is really going on. Are the testing centers misinformed or is certipoint just saying one thing and something else will happen. I have been waiting months to take the xp exams but can not find a center within 100 miles offering them and do not plan to offer them.
1/3/02 - Anonymous says: I called my testing center and they said they never heard about the January 14 rollout. What is going on?
1/3/02 - coleman  P says: Does Microsoft plan to add Visio certification?
1/8/02 - Joseph Villapaz  says: Certiport's universal exam deployment plan should put test candidate concerns to rest. Once its in place, there should be no question what exam is available at what test center because they'll all provide them simultaneously.
1/9/02 - Anonymous says: Then someone better inform all the testing centers they must offer MOUS 97, 2000 and XP exams. All the testing centers in the region are staying with 2000 and will not be offering the new exams.
8/23/02 - ali tozih  from teacher says: excel expert
