First Windows XP Exam To Debut in 4Q 2001

7/16/2001 -- Ken Rosen, content strategist for Microsoft's Training and Certification Group, outlined the first in a line of exams and courses for Windows XP and Windows .NET Server at the Microsoft Fusion Conference in Anaheim, Calif., on Saturday.

He said the new exam, 70-270, Installing, Configuring and Administering Windows XP Professional, will be made available soon after the Oct. 25 release of Windows XP.

Details were sketchy as of the announcement, but it's expected that the exam objectives will follow those of 70-210, Windows 2000 Professional. It's also expected that Microsoft will make this exam a part of the Windows 2000 MCSE track, where candidates will be able to choose among a slew of WinXP/.NET exams as well as Windows 2000 exams to fulfill the core requirements, and not part of a "parallel" track.

Rosen also outlined the following preparation courses for the new 70-270 exam, which have already been released to manufacturing: 2520: Deploying Windows XP Professional; one day 2272: Supporting Windows XP Professional; five days 2290: Preinstalling Windows XP Professional for OEMs; five days Courses 2272 and 2290 will be available through CTECs later this month. Course 2520 is slated for availability in August.

Exam objectives for 70-270 were not available on the Microsoft Training and Certification Web site as of Saturday; Microsoft will post them in the next few weeks at http://www.microsoft.com/trainingandservices. -MCPMag.com

7/18/01 - Anonymous says: Not that I am against aspiring MCSEs, but has Microsoft (MS)not broken their promise ? Earlier this year, the IT community was "up in arms" because MS had implied that 2000 MCSEs would need to re-certify in XP. MS clarified this issue, when they indicated that 2000 would be a stepping stone to get your MCSE in the XP series. Exactly how does this article support that statement ? MS seems to be indicating that XP and 2000 will be in a soup as CORE exams. My question: Who is going to hire a 2000 MCSE over an XP MCSE ? It looks like we could all have waited for the XP exams rather than re-certify from NT to 2000...

7/18/01 - Becky  Nagel says: Hi Anonymous -- Actually, a while back, Microsoft announced that the two exam types would be interchangeable in this track -- perhaps that reaction was the reason.
7/19/01 - June  says: I would like to ask I just got my mcse last week, now they have new exam, so all of the study I did for nothings ? Goshhhhh...... Anybody know will MCP expire ? because Im thinking if they keep on changing the exam so fast, I will just let my mcse expire then.
7/19/01 - Peter  Nguyen says: I plan to renew my MCSE by December but I won't do it. Why should I get certified on an Operating system which will expired in a few years ?
7/20/01 - Anonymous says: Did it affect the current MCSE track? or another Option or elective...! hate all this change..
7/20/01 - Anonymous2  says: Your wasting your time chasing certifications if your not working with the product. This is a money game and the only winners are the vendors like Microsoft. I said last year that MS would put the XP exams in soup bowl and they did. Live and learn , historically this is fairly normal. If you want them digging in your pockets keep falling for their stupidity. If you want to excel work with the product and get certs that are applicable to what your doing.
7/23/01 - Anonymous says: Just about every company retire exams and make people re-certify. Would you want someone working on your network that was only an MCSE on NT 3.51? It's a way to show your knowledge. Not to fatten your wallets with quick money.
9/28/01 - Anonymous Gateshater says: It's not about fattening our wallets--it's meant to fatten Gates wallet--Bill you suck--I'm off the treadmill.
7/11/02 - Anonymous says: plz guys help me for MCSE exams ,Where i can find the real real real exams ,plz send it to [email protected] Thanx
