Okay so about two years ago I was on a road trip to a friends college and got arrested and convicted for a felony in a mall for having a credit card that didn't belong to us that was picked up off the floor. I'm very concerned as to how I will ever be able get a job when I graduate next year. Basically my question is, should I forget about working in IT? Please help!! Thank you.

Only time will answer that.
One thing I am sure of, if you don't try, you can forget about working in I.T.
I can tell you to be honest about it to prospective employers and see what happens.
One mistake isn't always a death sentence.
Go forward!

No, I don't think you should forget about working in IT... but I'll be honest with you and say that your felony will certainly make it more difficult. I wholeheartedly agree with ITN: when asked about it, be honest. Don't hide it, because falsifying a resume (particularly with attempting to hide a felony) can bring about even more troubles for you.

I don't think it will disqualify you entirely. The longer it has been, the less people will care. I would not list it on your resume but disclose it in advance if an employer will be running a background check.
You might consider consulting an attorney and asking if there is any chance of expunging it from your record after a certain number of years or applying for a pardon from the state governor where you were convicted.
You might also try running a background check on yourself and seeing if the conviction comes up. Recordkeeping is far from perfect. I once had a speeding ticket completely disappear from the system.

Just my two cents but I don't agree with just giving up on IT, especially if that's what you enjoy. All sorts of companies now more than ever do background and credit history investigations regardless of the position you're applying for.
Best of luck to you!

Since when do they arrest people for finding a lost credit card?
I'd suggest a career in politics instead.

He wasn't arrested for "finding" a credit card, he says he was arrested for "having" a credit card that didn't belong to him.
Where and how he found it doesn't matter.
He doesn't say he was arrested turning it in at the lost and found counter. He left the details out.
Regardless of the missing details, he didn't say he was innocent, but he did say he was convicted.
Troubleshooting 101 (evaluate the known facts)!
I guess you have a point though....some politicians do have a way of working around the known facts! :-)
