This might be slightly opinionated I know, since I know the author of the book, had lunch with him a couple or so times but BosonMichael (only with others - Josh, is this BosonJosh?) wrote a pretty darn good book on Windows Vista Exam 70-620. I haven't read it cover to cover yet and usually I don't care for CD's that accompany books, but I'd have to say, this one is top notch. I found that I actually prefer using it to reading the book and then perform the chapter quizzes on the cd. So far all (but one guy who rated it a 1 because he couldn't figure out how to get his cdplayer to work - dumba*s) it has received excellent reviews.
In the past, I have always hated flash cards - usually find them to be more of an annoyance, but not so in this case. Haven't played with the WimSim yet, but everything else I have. I haven't written my review on Amazon yet (I will Friday afternoon - won't say why just yet ) but lets just say I'm not taking the 70-620 exam, but instead the 70-621 which is a combination of 70-620 and 70-622.
If any of you guys have the MCDST, you have until Sept 30th 2007 to schedule the 70-621 and get a 40% discount, meaning instead of $125, its only $75. That's saving money even after buying Mike & Josh's book (I'm assuming Josh Evitt is BosonJosh). Anyone who knows Sybex also knows the company is well know for authors who write easy reading books, unlike the dry reading of MSPress books. But you'll learn far more than just enough to pass the exam. But of course, I suspect most of us won't worry about configuring RSS feeds (not allowed where I work) in a corporate environment.
So look it over at Amazon, for Vista 70-620, you'll like it I'm sure.
Oh and Mike, I want mine autographed later on by you guys and hey, get to work writing one for 70-622

WildCat, I know a lot of people including yourself, are always recommending MS Press and Sybex for cert studying. I'm curious, you, WildCat, do you prefer Sybex over MS Press?

1) Thank you for the review!
2) Revealing BosonJosh's real name would be a violation of the Superhero Code of Ethics. :D
3) Yes, you know we'll autograph it for you... if you post your review on Amazon. ;)
4) No more books for us for a while, I'd guess... but we'll be working on a practice exam for 70-622 in the near future. :)

I've been outed! :O
Actually, thanks for the great review! Michael and I worked very hard on the book, so it's nice to get some positive feedback.
As Michael mentioned, we probably won't be writing any more books for a while, instead focusing on getting some more practice tests written, including one for 70-622 :)

Oh, c'mon. You wouldn't be able to pick one if you had to? :)

Why pick just one if you don't have to? ;)

What other books has Mike written. I have been trying to read the MS Press books for the MCDST and it always puts me to sleep. Then again I guess it doesn't help that I read it after reading my son a couple of books to put him to sleep.

Exactly. I think if you would look back over our histories of posts regarding study material, we've always have suggested obtaining more than one source, just like you'd use technet, ccna prepcenter, online research, etc etc etc. Never limit your scope of understanding the smallest detail.
That would be like me saying to you doing desktop support, if you had to chose one thing to assist you with desktop support - what would it be? Phone, email, web browsing, talking directly in person to anyone for assistance, etc. That would be quite ludicrous wouldn't it? Wouldn't that restrict greatly your ability to assist the end user?
So same thing goes with research/study materials. Some of it is quite bad, others quite good. You've seen me preach many, many times about people who don't or won't research properly (my pet peeve). Granted it takes some time to refine your abilities, but it shouldn't take years. That's why I maintain a collection of books. I may not read it cover to cover, but if I have a question in my mind, I know exactly where to look to refresh my memory (other than hooking up jumper cables to a battery and to my neck electrodes - "kick it on booster speed bubba, it ain't firing over yet")
I got the MSPress book first Vista Inside/Out, because it was available first. When Sybex released Mike, Josh, and friends book, I bought it.
However I still don't know if I'll do any other Vista exams yet, I might sit for the 70-620 later on since it counts as an elective for other certs whereas the 70-621 does not (at least not yet - I'm hedging my bet).

That's my only book, CS. I do plan on writing another book in the future, but it will not be directed at a particular certification exam. However, I will need to find a publisher for it. :)
I currently write practice exam products for Boson, and used to write for other practice exam companies in the past. So if you like what you see in the Sybex 70-620 book, you might check out Boson's ExSim Max products (the ExSim products were done before Josh and I were hired at Boson).
