Personally as a person who has been around the traps a long time and as someone who employs Java certified I have never been impressed by certifications. If you are completely new to the field then it's probably a good starting point but if you already have good experience under your belt then that is what I would be looking for.

that's quite alright, we don't mind. We'll get the jobs out there that those of us with experience and certifications can get that you won't offer and we probably wouldn't want.

Been wondering why you post new topics and not once replied to any replies to your posts.

I use to think like you, just waiting for the call that wouldn't come only to find out I was beat out by someone else who had the same experience or even some less but had certifications I didn't have and didn't think I need. As soon as I started getting my certifications, that all changed.

I'll agree that experience trumps certifications. However, if I find two individuals with equivalent experience, and one has taken the initiative to acquire certifications and the other one hasn't, all else being equal, I'll hire the one with experience AND certifications.
