Need a Job? FBI Puts IT Hiring on Fast Track

1/3/2006 -- Late last month the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation announced that it needs a to fill a number of IT positions quickly, and will be fast-tracking the application and hiring process for the jobs.

The agency said it is looking for IT professionals with "highly competitive" skills in a variety of specialties, including infrastructure, project management and data warehousing. Pay for the positions range from $35,452 to $135,136, with recruitment bonuses possible for those who possess "skills deemed most critical to the FBI."

The FBI is looking to fill the unspecified number of positions within 120 days, it said. Potential candidates must be U.S. citizens and consent to a complete background investigation, drug test and polygraph.

Those interested can find out more at www.fbijobs.gov. All applications must be submitted by Jan. 31. -Becky Nagel

1/5/06: Michael from San Diego says: Looks like most of those positions require EXTENSIVE experience AND a Ph.D. I doubt most mid or even senior level Windows admins would qualify. And if they would, they are in high paying jobs already. MP
1/5/06: Rod says: Application process is VERY laborious.
1/5/06: considering it.... says: I'm afraid some of these positions would simply be paper pushing jobs. I wonder how much control over the outcome of the projects you would have or if all of the tasks are already designated. If they're more than that then I'll have to reconsider the FBI in another year when I'm done with my masters. I've noticed more of these jobs are requiring a lot more. CNE, CCNA, & 3xMCSE with a degree just doesn't do much anymore. CISSP probably won't help either. Of course, DC is a totally different market.... Did anyone notice the job decription reads like the Miranda rights? Like "Performs configuration management on project in accordance with established configuration management policies and procedures." aka common sense? They pay well, but this is exactly why they can't find people. Who wants to deal with that? I suppose the FBI techies I've met have all been great. Alright I'll bite my lip now and apply.
1/5/06: Ed from Dallas says: The postings I saw don't appear to require the world of you and the salaries are comparable to what most people are earning in these same positions in a corporate environment. Of course, the greatest draw is the generous pension at the end of your career, how many corp. America employees can say that?
1/5/06: Dennis from Portland Oregon says: I didn't read anything about location - are there any positions outside of DC?
1/5/06: Steven from Dept of the Army says: Looks interesting; however, they don't accept applications from current govt employees stationed overseas. :-( I have 7 years with the govt (Army) as an IT Specialist. The pay and benefits are decent. If you are trying to break into govt service, this FBI hiring blitz might be a great opportunity. You could always apply for a transfer to another govt agency after attaining your career status.
1/6/06: Ryan from Perth, Australia says: Shame they don't allow people from outside of US such as some allied countries like Australia to apply for these jobs.
1/6/06: Lee from Atlanta says: Are Americans able to able for jobs in Australia? Would be cool to go down under!
1/6/06: Debbie from Atlanta, Georgia says: Too bad these are in the D.C. area.
1/6/06: James from Florida says: Not sure what some of you are referencing ... I read the requirements and the descriptions and if the positions weren't in DC I would definitely apply
