Cisco Closes the Books on Still Another Acquisition

6/20/2005 -- About the only thing more impressive than Cisco Systems Inc.’s penchant for making acquisition is its track record in completing them.

Last week, Cisco closed the books on the acquisition of the former FindGround Networks Inc. Big deal, you say? Even those of you with especially poor memories might recollect that Cisco announced its intent to acquire FineGround—a provider of application delivery management solutions—on May 26.

For the record, that’s less than four weeks ago.

At the time, Cisco paid approximately $70 million in cash and options for FineGround. It announced plans to integrate the company’s technology with the rest of its technology stack, which could result in native IOS support for network application monitoring and application delivery acceleration.

FineGround’s appliances use application delivery optimization techniques that help ensure bandwidth efficiency, decreased latency and server offload. Last month, Cisco said FineGround’s appliances can help customers improve end-user response times by up to five times, reduce application bandwidth usage by up to 90 percent, and reduce the load on servers by up to 90 percent.

Now that the acquisition is complete, FineGround becomes part of Cisco's Security Technology Group. FineGround CEO Nat Kausik will continue to lead the team. -Stephen Swoyer
