Cisco Announces CCNP/CCDP Composite Exam

7/9/2003 -- As part of an upcoming revamp of the Cisco Certified Network Professional title, Cisco has announced a new exam: Composite (COMP 642-891).

The exam will debut August 7. It will replace the current CCNP and CCDP Recertification and CCNP Foundation exams, as well as serve as an option for candidates who want to "consolidate" the BSCI and BCMSN exams, the company said.

The existing Foundation 640-841exam, CCNP Recertification 640-589 exam, and CCDP Recertification 640-529 exam will retire on September 7, 2003, matching the recently announced extended deadline for the other retiring CCNP exams. Corresponding courses will retire August 7.

More information on the new exam and how it fits in to the CCNP certification requirements can be found here. More information on how it applies to the CCDP can be found here. -Becky Nagel

7/9/03: Chas from Georgia says: Cisco seems to think that there are no other certs that people have to have. They also think that everybody has money out the wazoo. It would be nice to find a comprehensive vendor neutral internetworking certification. I would jump off this merry-go-round real quick...
7/9/03: Todd from Alaska says: Yes, Cisco changes there exams on a regular basis to keep the information, but I have never had to start over like I did with Microsoft. As long as I took the most current exam that filled the block, I was good to go. I mixed and matched exam from the 4, 5, and 600 series exams. I have never taking an exam more than once because Cisco changed the exams. If you can not keep track of this, do I really want you configuring subnets on my network?

7/10/03: Afzal from Karachi says: yet another cisco pshyco MONEYia!!!
7/10/03: Jeff from Louisiana says: As long as the customer wants Cisco certs; I'll be renewing them. The closest vendor neutral stuff I have is CompTIA certs and no one seems to care about them.
7/10/03: Jim from Los Angeles says: Thank goodness I have finished my CCNP exams (for now). There have been too many changes and it is not only getting expensive, but confusing. Set the path and let them walk it!
7/10/03: Dave from UK says: In every other profession, certification is not only an important but regular occurance. If we as IT professionals want to be taken seriously by our employers and other people within the industry, the certification programs from companies like Cisco are the only valid way. People find out pretty quickly if you're a paper whatever. If you don't want to play the game get off the field.
7/11/03: capt'save-A-Ho says: jackasses stop the Mo'money shit. It's one exam that replaces three! It's actually less money
