MySQL Launches Cert Program

3/19/2003 -- Last week Sweden-based MySQL AB, developer of the open source database MySQL, officially launched a new certification program for its flagship product.

According to MySQL AB, the program will eventually consist of three titles: MySQL Core, MySQL Professional and MySQL PHP (for those who work with the Web development tool PHP).

For each title, candidates will be required to pass one exam.

The exam for MySQL Core is already available at Pearson Vue testing centers worldwide for U.S. $150. Exams for the other titles are expected to be released throughout 2003.

The credentials are tied to specific versions of MySQL and may be retired as update versions come about, MySQL AB said.

MySQL AB describes its database as "the world's most popular Open Source database," with more than 4 million installations worldwide.
