Sun's policy of not retiring exams just because it has come out with new versions is very sensible; we have many Oracle Certifieds in our organization who cannot keep in pace with the Oracle's retiring of exams- as we are still in the older versions- and hence we do not care upgrading until we are working with newer versions. |

The real reason for the introduction of the 1.4 exam is the hope of more revenue. In reality however, holding a 1.4 certification shows that you are a java NewBee. Good luck. Me, I am a sun certified programmer for the java2 platform, sun ..developer.. etc. I have been in java since 1.1.8. |

I doubt that Sun nets any significant income on exams after the cut for Prometric and the cost of administration is taken out. On the other hand I imagine the income from courses is significant. |

Similar comments were made by Sun when the Java 2 Programmer Exam was introduced. Then, gradually, the tone changed until after about a year of them both being available, the older exam was retired. But they gave quite a bit of notice on the retirement - the rug was not pulled out from people. I liked the way Sun is doing instead of retiring, keeping the older version as somtimes our project not need the new version syllabus, recently I have passed SCJP with 88% and sincerely I want to share some books for the cerfication. |

I am currrently 1.4 Certified. The test is very similar to the 1.2 Test. Just learn asserts like the back of your hand. :) (i took the beta test) |

i have passed the 1.4 beta exam . It is much more better and focussed more on OOPS concepts compared to 1.2 exam . Taking out AWT and IO from java certification is a great idea. good job sun!!! |
