Training Company Expands CIO Cert

6/12/2002 -- Will CIOs soon be getting certified en masse? Pink Elephant, a Toronto-based IT training company specializing in IT management education, hopes so.

This fall, Pink Elephant will premiere the second level of its four-tiered certification for CIOs, known collectively as IT Executive Management certification.

The four levels of certification are:

  • Level I: IT Business Perspectives -- Two-day training session focusing on the essentials of IT executive management and the ITIL best practices framework for managing IT services. Exam given at the end of the seminar. Price: $2,695 (U.S.).
  • Level II: Corporate Strategy -- Seven-day residential program drills down on the ITIL as well as the PinkFrame IT business model, plus more. Exam given at the end of the seminar. Will debut in September in Ottowa. Price: $5,830 (U.S.) (hotel not included).
  • Level III: IT Strategic Leadership -- Participants will be required to submit a written paper outlining how the candidate implemented at least two PinkFrame components within 12 months of passing Level II. Price to be determined when launched (no date set).
  • Level IV: IT Executive Management Masters Certification -- Pink Elephant will audit candidate's organization after the participant has fully implemented the PinkFrame business model. Price to be determined when launched (no date set).

In order for candidates to participate in the new Level II certification, they must have already completed its Level I title, and should have a minimum of five years of IT management experience.

According to Pink Elephant Account Manager Brian Watters, the first level of the company's certification program launched in 2000. Since then, more than 100 people have been certified on this level.

The first Level II class will debut in September in Ottawa, Canada.

More information about this certification program can be found on Pink Elephant's Web site, here. - B.N.

6/19/02: Brian Watters from Toronto says: The Level 1 program is a 3 day course with an exam at the end of day 3. Level 3 price is $1500US plus expenses. Level 4 price is $16,845US
6/19/02: jonathan from Beverly Hills says: i personally think its too overpriced, i have been exposed to these so-called high caliber training sessions and its just too overpriced, most instructors lack enthusiasm and interest and they act as if they have just gotten demoted from their position from their original duties and task, plus most of these intstructors read out of the book, very doubtful about this program especially, good luck to those who want to pursue this training.
6/27/03: Mike McLaughlin says: I don’t know if this is the right place to ask this but….. I’m looking for any information that may be available concerning the numbers and levels of ITIL certification within ITIL compliant companies. We are moving towards ITIL compliance and a question frequently posed is how many people should be training In ITIL and to what level. Is there any survey out there that could be used as “rule of thumb” to assess a level of necessary commitment to certifications?
6/30/03: Becky Nagel from Editor, CertCities.com says: Hi Mike -- We only cover professional IT certifications on the site, not the corporate ones. Sorry we can't help with your query! -- Becky Nagel, Editor, CertCities.com
7/26/05: Claudine J Viviers from South Africa says: Good afternoon Mike: I'd like to maybe speak with you about your question on how many people to upskill: Please let me know if you are interested or if you have found your information. Thank you.
12/12/06: Rachna Singh from India says: I have a query: I have completed my ITIL Exam yesterday itself. I wanted to know if there is anyway that i can see this information or the information that i am ITIL certified over the internet? Does OGC have a Database for all these and if yes then how can we access it or view it?
