Cisco Drops CCIE Achievement Plaques

7/11/2001 -- Cisco announced recently via its Web site that it's revising its Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) "recognition" program. As part of that revision, the company will no longer send CCIEs a plaque when they achieve the title.

"The CCIE program has traditionally rewarded those who have achieved their certification with a plaque that symbolized their achievement," the Web site states. "That tradition has been temporarily placed on hold as we revise and update that program. We hope to be able to introduce the details of our new recognition program by September."

Cisco makes no mention of why the company is discontinuing the plaques, nor what it might replace them with.

The CCIE is the highest level of certification Cisco offers. Candidates must pass a written exam, as well as a two-day, hands-on lab exam in order to achieve the title.

For more on the CCIE program, visit the Cisco Web site (click here). -B.N

7/17/01: Ariel Martin says: No me parece mal que no envien mas placas, de hecho la mejor recompensa por ser CCIE, es saber lo que un CCIE sabe. Eso es lo mas importante para mi.
7/20/01: Anonymous says: Oh! Cisco need to redefine the CCIE program! CCIE is worth for everything
7/21/01: Martin MCSE/CCNP says: I think Cisco is taking the wrong path.... CCIE will be as worthless as my MCSE.... Thet´re dropping the Trobleshoting, Setup and cabling areas of the exams among others .. .
7/23/01: Anonymous says: CCIE is getting worse... A hard path without proper payback!
8/1/01: Anonymous says: You've gotta be kidding me. My level of respect, billing rate and salary all DOUBLED with my CCIE certification.
8/25/01: Anonymous says: I was told that Cisco has designed a slightly newer CCIE logo and was negotation with a new vendor to provide the plaques. I believe their intention is to continue providing a plaque, but also give you the option to buy additional plaques, if, for example, you want to have one for home and work.
2/11/03: Anonymous says: CCIE is and will be the most respected cert as long as those who have it are respected... Having a plaque is not what makes me respectable... Not because you put on a feather costume means you will fly with eagles.
