Cisco CCNP & CCDP Specializations Officially Retired

5/30/2001 -- As of May 15, 2001, Cisco has officially retired all CCNP and CCDP Specialization certifications.

The company announced that the retirements were coming a few months ago. In their place, Cisco is offering new Cisco Qualified Specialist designations. According to the Cisco Web site, most of the specializations previously offered have been replaced by new Qualified Specialist tracks.

For those who previously earned a CCNP or CCDP specialization, the titles will "remain active for two years from the date achieved. There will be no recertification option," the site states.

6/3/01: Chris says: Currently I`m a junior high school teacher thinking about switching career fields. Business seems like the most viable option right now but I`m uncertain how much training ( MBA withstanding ) specifically software training would benefit me most. Any suggestions?
6/4/01: Keith says: How come then that Cisco press is still selling the CCNP/CCDP prep and cert libraries? Doesnt Cisco underestand that it may take months if not a year to study and pass the 4 tests? So what are we supposed to do if we are ready to take the tests are they not available? How come Transcenders JUST released their CCNP certs? Do I keep studying, return the books and stuff....what do I do?
8/2/01: bill says: I think some people are confused of the difference between ccnp sepecialization certificate and ccnp wan and switch certificate. ccnp wan and switch certificate Keith is working on is still valid. thank you
10/17/01: Pete says: THIS ARTICLE IS FALSE. CCNP/CCDP certs are still available and valid. Cisco did not retire these exams. I'm starting to pursue the CCDP myself and was surprised to see this. None of the exams for this cert or CCNP are scheduled to retire! The author of this article needs to look at the real information on the website! Show me were it states that these exams are expiring?
11/14/01: Becky says: Pete -- The certs themselves are still available -- it's only the specalization programs that have been retired.
